Focusing on the ancient indigo dyeing technique, we hand-dyed Tosa Washi paper to create a unique coloring of the dial, known as “Japan blue”. Using the technique of natural lye fermentation and construction, the paper was carefully dyed in a workshop in Tokushima Prefecture. The transparency of the color is pursued by adjusting the conditions to achieve a beautiful indigo color while allowing light to penetrate, creating a one-of-a-kind expression on each dial.

The CITIZEN watch brand has a symbol mark of an eagle with its wings spread wide. The motif of the dial design is the image of an eagle gracefully flapping its wings in the cloudless blue sky. On the glossy bright blue dial, a dynamic pattern resembling an eagle’s wings is expressed by molding technology. The reflections of light on the delicate bumps and dips of the molded pattern give the dial a three-dimensional appearance reminiscent of the flapping of an eagle’s wings.
